| Description | View of the Towne Block, 947 to 955 Elm Street and Weeks Block 935 to 943 Elm Street looking south east from the west side of Elm Street, to the left is Amherst Street. People are seen on the side walk standing or walking. Many signs for business are visible, the following are the ones that are readable. Starting on the ground floor reading left to right Walsh & Company, Druggist; W, G. Connor, Cigar Store; Heath Shoe Store; a Sign Company; (to the right of Weeks Block) W. Dodge Shoe Company; and Manchester Tea Company. On the second floor a sign for Dr. Boutwell's is seen on Amherst Street; There are two signs for Dr. Scribner at the corner of the building; on the third through the fifth windows the painted sign on is for John R. Williams & Company Coal Wood; After the third window there are three signs for Dr. Folsom; Dr. Lemaitre's Office; and Dr. Boutwell's; followed by a sign between the fourth and fifth window for the Office of the Texas Company, Petroleum & its Products, John R. Williams & Company, Agent. The six story building on the far right is the Pickering Building, 903-913 Elm Street, a sign on the north side of it is for W. R. Call, Photographer. He was in this building between from 1893-1924. |
