Description |
Double World War I funeral procession passing through Granite Square. This view shows soldiers marching followed by a horse drawn caisson with flag draped coffins, cars, and horse drawn carriages. People watch from both sides of the street. The two soldiers the funeral was held for were Corporal Charles Andrew Vaughan and Private Henry John Sweeney. Pvt. Sweeney was the first Manchester man to give his life during the First World War. The American Legion Sweeney Post and Sweeney Park were so named in rememberance for his sacrifice.
